Yankees Place Domingo Germán on the 10-Day Injured List

What a year this has been. The Yankees announced today that Domingo Germán was placed on the 10-day IL with a left hip flexor strain retroactive to 6/8. That means the earliest we can see Germán again is 6/17, though who knows how serious the injury is. It could be longer than that.

After a terrific start, Germán had been struggling lately, allowing 8 home runs in his last 26.2 innings pitched and batters have a .845 OPS against him in his last 5 starts. That means they’re all Gleyber Torres, basically. Not good.

Struggles aside, though, the Yankees need Germán. Their pitching depth is stretched thin and he has clearly shown that he can get big leaguers out when everything is working. That’s what the team needs right now. Hopefully, this is just a quick stint and he comes back better than ever. Get well soon, Domingo.

The one bit of good news is that it seems like the Yankees may only need a 5th starter 3 times prior to the all star break.

After the day off Wed, they play 14 straight which means a 5th starter twice (games 5 and 10) assuming they juggle the rotation after the day off. They then have 3 days off around the London series which will give the main 4 guys extra rest and skip the 5th starter. And then they have a 6 game stretch heading into the break where they will need a 5th starter once.

Obviously this gives them little margin for error and pushes the other 4 guys harder than they normally would have.

2019 Yankees are simply a MASH unit…never seen this many injuries.

Maybe this is an opportunity for Chance Adams. Three earned runs in his last five starts all of which he pitched six or more innings. It’s now or never for him.
