Wild Card Round Game 2: Close it out

No better time than tonight to win this series, am I right? The Yankees have to be feeling pretty darn good about themselves after crushing Shane Bieber yesterday. Cleveland comes back with another good starter this evening in Carlos Carrasco, but it’s hard not to be confident about the Yankees offense at the moment. Plus, we get to see Playoff Masahiro Tanaka. He carries a postseason 1.76 ERA into this ballgame.

This isn’t the first time Tanaka and Carrasco have faced off, by the way. You surely remember the Greg Bird game. But do you recall Tanaka’s performance in that one?

Would love to see that again in tandem with another offensive outburst. Obviously.

Here are the lineups for Game 2:

New York Yankees (1-0)

  1. DJ LeMahieu, 2B
  2. Aaron Judge, RF
  3. Aaron Hicks, CF
  4. Luke Voit, 1B
  5. Giancarlo Stanton, DH
  6. Gio Urshela, 3B
  7. Gleyber Torres, SS
  8. Brett Gardner, LF
  9. Gary Sánchez, C

RHP Masahiro Tanaka

Cleveland Indians (0-1)

  1. Francisco Lindor, SS
  2. César Hernández, 2B
  3. José Ramírez, 3B
  4. Carlos Santana, 1B
  5. Franmil Reyes, DH
  6. Josh Naylor, LF
  7. Roberto Pérez, C
  8. Tyler Naquin, RF
  9. Delino DeShields, CF

RHP Carlos Carrasco

News & Notes

  • MLB announced that fans will be able to attend the NLCS and World Series in Arlington, Texas. Um, yeah.
  • It’s going to be extremely windy tonight at Progressive Field. There’s a gale warning.
  • I thought this was established yesterday, but Aaron Boone indicated that the Yankees would start JA Happ tomorrow if necessary.
  • (Deep sigh) Houston is the first team to advance in this postseason. They completed a two game sweep of Minnesota this afternoon. Somehow, it’s the Twins’ 18th straight postseason loss.
  • It sure looks like Tampa Bay (up 1-0) is on its way to the next round too. They’re up 8-2 in the sixth as of this writing. The Rays would be the Yankees’ next opponent, should the Bombers finish off Cleveland.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:08 p.m. EDT on ESPN, WFAN, and WADO. Enjoy the ballgame, everyone.

  1. Fair weather fans and trolls deserted the Yankees in the rain.

Meanwhile, Gio Urshela is ONE HAPPY FELLA!

Boone has to get Tanaka out of there. He looks like crap hanging 88 mph. This one is over, folks. It all comes down to Happ tomorrow to save the season.

Well it didn’t take long for them to screw us, Derek. Why in the hell was that ballgame delayed when it was sunny and clear out and then started during a monsoon? Tanaka was pitching in a hurricane! And I like how they waited until Cleveland scored a run to put the tape on. Now we’ve just lost Tanaka. Deivi better be ready tonight.

  4. JG (Ben Francisco)

Absolut disgrace that they delayed it and then played in those conditions
