Following tonight’s horrendous outing, Jonathan Holder has been sent to AAA Scranton by the Yankees. An inevitable move is inevitable.
Pretty brutal for Holder personally, as he’ll now spend the weekend in Allentown, PA as opposed to London, but the results simply were not there. I mean, tonight he surrendered 5 runs on 5 hits (2 HR) and just looked completely lost. Missing his spots, getting crushed, the works.
He’d allowed 13 runs on 13 hits in 5.1 IP in his last 6 appearances, including tonight’s ballgame. (He’s got a 6.81 ERA/4.95 FIP on the season) That is so unbelievably bad. I feel awful for Holder, but yikes.
Hopefully, Holder goes to AAA, makes some adjustments, and returns to form ala Chad Green. That would be nice. And, not to mention, Holder was good last year, pitching to a 3.14 ERA (3.04 FIP) in 66 IP last year, with opponents hitting .210 off him. It sure would be nice to see Holder come back looking like that, but it’s obvious that right now, he shouldn’t be anywhere near a Major League mound.
We’ll update with the corresponding roster move once it’s announced.

I’m sure we’ll see Holder again

So guesses on the corresponding move? Maybe Stephen Tarpley? He’s been good in AAA.

So where’s our “What’s wrong with Jonathan Holder” post?
SM
This should have been done weeks ago.
RetroRob
It’s the correct move. He can’t work on fixing his issues on the MLB level. The Green solution gives him the best chance of getting back on track. They really need Dellin to return, but he’s still a ways off.

Indeed so. Ben Heller will be back sooner than Dellin (NOT saying he is Dellin but his pitch movement before was so electric)!

It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Heller. My guess is that they option him to the minors once his rehab assignment is up. I’d be surprised if they brought him right back to the Bronx.
overseasyankeefan
Highly unlikely he will be immediately brought up to Bronx (unless things go very wrong)…He (everyone for the matter) will need to work his way up the ladder for sure. More importantly, there is no guarantee that his stuff will remain the same after TJS (hopefully it will~!). If nothing else, he will definitely be an interesting piece to follow up on the bullpen depth chart.
CountryClub
Oh yeah. Just to be clear, we’re on the same page.

I agree, Retro. @RobsYankees Would love to discuss it more.

Sounds fun. I’ll have to give it a look

Hey Exiled! Would love to discuss it more! You and Marlin still have that Slack!

Sounds like a fun place.

As good as he was last year, that’s as bad as he has been this year.
