Welcome back, big fella. Giancarlo Stanton has been officially returned from his rehab stint and reinstated off the IL. The Yankees are getting close to full strength, and I for one welcome our new power-hitting overlords. Here’s the official announcement from the team.
Stanton has played in only 3 games so far in 2019. He hit .266/.343/.509 (127 wRC+) with 38 home runs last year for the Bombers, worth 4.2 fWAR in what was one of the worst years of his career by almost any metric. This guy is good. The Yankees have missed him.
The Yankees, who sent down Mike Tauchman as the corresponding move, are almost fully healthy on offense. They’ve added Didi Gregorius, Edwin Encarnación and now Giancarlo Stanton to their lineup in just a few weeks. Aaron Judge, the best hitter of the bunch, is set to return within the week.
Things are looking up, and the team was already in first place. Now it’s time to continue to get healthy and keep winning games.
