The Views From 314ft Podcast Episode 29: Post-mortem

Randy and Derek break down where it all went wrong against the Rays in the ALDS. Things are still a bit raw after with the Yankees’ elimination coming just a few days ago, but the two discuss Game 2, the lineup’s makeup against the Rays’ pitching, and the “it” factor, among other problems in the series. This leads to discussion about what the Yankees need to do to improve, whether it be not trying to beat the Rays at their own game, adding lefty bats, and more.

Randy, i understand where you’re coming from, but I don’t believe you’re being realistic here. The Yankees faced the two best pitching staffs in the Indians and Rays and they scored a ton of runs but in one game-the final. They took it down to the very last inning of the last game. It’s not as if the Rays were mashing either. The Yankees pitched a no-hitter against the Rays across two games. Scoring decreases and the Yankees had one single game where they were shut down. That’s what happens when two excellent teams clash. The Yankees hitters were NOT shut down in this postseason.

I get adding balance. That might have helped, but no guarantee. I do like the idea to limit the Rays (and the Astros) in how they deploy their bullpen, but let’s not forget how they got to game 5.
