The Yankees really, really tried to give this one away, but a late-inning rally headlined by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton led the Bombers to a 6-3 win and a dramatic sweep of the Boston Red Sox.  This weekend was everything it needed to be, and the Yankees are now a full game up on the top wild card spot going into another big series against the Toronto Blue Jays.  To the takeaways:

Game 151: Nestor and offense do just enough

After being outscored 22-4 this weekend against Cleveland to the point that we didn’t even bother recapping the games (just kidding, we were all just busy), the Yankees bounced back with a much needed 4-3 win. Of course a 4-0 lead in the 2nd turned into a 1 run nailbiter for most of the night, but a win’s a win. To the takeaways:

Game 147: Embarrassing

With 15 games to play and the scramble for the AL Wild Card spots becoming no less intense, every game is a must-win for the Yankees – especially games like today’s, against a team like the Orioles, with a pitcher like Jordan Montgomery on the mound. Alas, despite an excellent outing from Montgomery and holding a lead with 8 ⅔ innings in the books, the Yankees found a way to blow it in Baltimore and dropped this game 3-2 in 10. As that GOT reference indicates, the Yankees stopped their free-fall today with a W against the Twins. Who at this point, just can’t do anything to beat the Yankees no matter how bad they are playing. It was tight, sure. It was really stressful as well. But a huge W due to what’s in play.

Game 104: Yanks mount comeback to sweep Marlins

They finally did it! After being 4-10 in potential sweep clinching games and 13-25 in day games, the Yankees pulled off the comeback win fueled by some poor defense by the Marlins to win this one for the sweep. That is their first series sweep since June against the Blue Jays. They are now a season-high 8 games over .500 at 56-48 and just 1 game back in the loss column for a playoff spot. And, they play their next 10 against the lowly Orioles, Mariners, and Royals. To the takeaways:
