Gleyber Torres exited tonight’s Yankee game in the bottom of the 4th inning. Orioles lefty John Means hit Torres square in his (unguarded) right elbow in the 1st inning. He was visibly in pain at the time, though he remained in the game and even batted again. Tyler Wade is in the game to replace him at short.
Hopefully, this is just a precautionary move by the Yanks and there’s nothing else more serious going on. A broken bone, which is the obvious worst-case scenario here, would sideline for Torres for the majority of the season at this point. I’ll update this once we learn more.
Update (8:58 pm): Here is the video of the HBP. Ouch:
Update (9:43 pm): Exhale, everyone. Gleyber just has a bruise. The Yankees announced that X-rays were negative:
Good news. That could have been a whole lot worse.
Update 12:04 am: Gleyber might play tomorrow, in classic Yankees fashion. I’ll believe that when I see it. 2019 did things to me.
