The Yankees and Red Sox battle at Fenway Park for the penultimate time Sunday night.

For the third time this season, it will be Masahiro Tanaka against Rick Porcello. Neither has fared particularly well against the opposing team this season. There’s no better example than the first game of the London Series, when neither pitcher completed the first inning.

Since their most recent matchup, a 19-3 Red Sox win in July, Porcello’s struggles have continued with his ERA rising to 5.63. Meanwhile, Tanaka has found a semblance of normal with adjustments to his splitter. Now, he’ll face a lineup that has given him plenty of trouble and will pounce on a slight weakness.

To the lineups:

Yankees (93-50)

DJ LeMahieu, 3B
Aaron Judge, RF
Didi Gregorius, SS
Gary Sanchez, C
Edwin Encarnacion, DH
Gleyber Torres, 2B
Brett Gardner, CF
Luke Voit, 1B
Mike Tauchman, LF

RHP Masahiro Tanaka

Red Sox (76-66)

Mookie Betts, RF
Rafael Devers, 3B
Xander Bogaerts, SS
J.D. Martinez, DH
Andrew Benintendi, LF
Brock Holt, 2B
Mitch Moreland, 1B
Sandy Leon, C
Jackie Bradley Jr. CF

RHP Rick Porcello

News & Notes

  • Gio Urshela, Thairo Estrada, Breyvic Valera and Kyle Higashioka were all added to the active roster. I’m guessing Urshela will return to the lineup Monday or come off the bench tonight. The rest might be it for Sept. call-ups on position player side.
  • Meanwhile, Aaron Boone provided updates on Luis Severino, CC Sabathia and Aaron Hicks. Check those out here
  • The Yankees are using the same lineup for the third straight day. Prior to Saturday, they hadn’t used the same lineup in back-to-back games all season.

It’ll be an 8:05 start on ESPN and WFAN. Weather should be in the high-60s with no rain in Boston. Enjoy!

Update: 8:09 p.m.: The game will start on ESPN2 with the US Open final going into a fifth set. (The tennis is great rn btw).

Update: 9:11 p.m.: Game is now on ESPN. The tennis was epic.
