Game 87: This Time, Let’s Beat Them in 9

Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Rays for taking the Yankees to extra innings on back to back nights. It’s a big accomplishment for them, it seems:

As heartwarming as the Rays’ recent success against the Yanks has been, I think it’s time that the Yanks beat them in 9 innings, don’t you? Today is as good a day as ever to put another game between them and second place. Here are the lineups:

Incidentally, as I follow this game on GameCast, the guy in the erectile dysfunction ad they keep showing looks suspiciously like Eduardo Nunez. Just sayin’.

Took a stroll through the Rays Twitter feed. God they’re pretty insufferable

That “it took them extras to beat us again” tweet is hilarious.

I haven’t been this surprised since Harold Baines was elected to the HOF. I really don’t even mean that as a knock. Baines was a fine player, but not quite HOF worthy. Tanak is has had a solid year, but I have to believe there are other pitchers (particularly relievers) who would make a good pick too.

I’m a bit surprised CC wasn’t picked. Tanaka is having a better year, but CC would be a decent choice since the game is in Cleveland and he’s going to be there anyway. This is an exhibition game, after all.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we hear Tanaka decides not to go and CC is not his replacement. Maybe pitching today takes CC out of contention.

RetroRob or someone else with an intelligent opinion: Why am I watching Mike Tauchman so much? What on earth is up with the Yankees and Frazier?

And as I draft that complaint, Tauchman hits a double. Figures.

I’m holding my opinion until after the All-Star break. I still think there’s a decent chance they call him up when the Yankees return to the Stadium.

The Yankees should have sent German down after his start on Wed and they wouldn’t have this 2 man bench non sense. They didn’t need him to start for 10 days and they could have gone with a 9 man pen and a 3 man bench.

He’s on his last minor league option, and I don’t think they’ve used it already for this year. Better to save that in case he needs the Green treatment at some point.

Also, when a guy performs like he has, let him stay up and get paid.
