June has been a pretty crummy month for the Yankees, huh? Not only are they 4-7 since the calendar flipped, but they’ve also done so against mostly mediocre to poor teams. Tonight, it won’t be easy to get off the schneid as the White Sox will trot out their emerging ace, Lucas Giolito.

Teams don’t look forward to facing Giolito anymore. The former top pitching prospect is finally starting to live up to his potential after a horrific season in 2018 (6.13 ERA in 32 starts). This year, he leads the American league in fWAR and FIP. So no, this is not the guy who’s allowed 13 runs in 10 career innings against the Bombers. The 24 year-old Giolito now looks like an ace:

Is that good? (Baseball Savant)

Countering Giolito is CC Sabathia, who hasn’t been the soft-contact wizard we’re accustomed to this year. It would be nice if he could turn that around tonight; the Yanks are in a bit of a rut and could use a lift from the big man. Time to start a winning streak and get Sabathia his 250th career win.

The lineups for tonight’s affair:

  • Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are in the lineup for Scranton tonight. Hooray! About time that we receive some good injury news.
  • The Yankees traded Brad Miller to the Phillies yesterday. The Yankees acquired him from Cleveland earlier this year to serve as depth and a potential call up, but Urshela’s strong play probably prevented that from ever happening. Miller has a 147 wRC+ in Triple-A, so another big league opportunity was well deserved.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:10pm. You can watch the game on WPIX or listen on WFAN. Enjoy the ballgame!
