After a disappointing 2-4 road trip, the Yankees return home for just two games to face the 32-33 crosstown rival Mets.
Normally, that’d create plenty of excitement and a packed crowd in the Bronx. The weather, however, has thrown a wrench into that. There’s a 50 percent chance of showers throughout the evening, though that’s down from yesterday’s outlook.
If they don’t get this game in, the New York baseball squadrons have a mutual off-day Wednesday or they could just play two Tuesday.
If we do have baseball tonight, it will be with the following lineups.
- Jeff McNeil, 2B
- Michael Conforto, RF
- Pete Alonso, DH
- Dominic Smith, 1B
- Todd Frazier, 3B
- Wilson Ramos, C
- J.D. Davis, LF
- Amed Rosario, SS
- Juan Lagares, CF
SP: Jason Vargas
- D.J. LeMahieu, 3B
- Luke Voit, 1B
- Aaron Hicks, CF
- Gary Sanchez, C
- Gleyber Torres, 2B
- Didi Gregorius, SS
- Clint Frazier, DH
- Cameron Maybin, RF
- Brett Gardner, LF
SP: Masahiro Tanaka
- Nestor Cortes Jr. was optioned to make room for Masahiro Tanaka, who comes off the paternity list.
- Chance Adams was sent down to Double-A Trenton to make a start this evening. Scranton has the day off and are heading on the road, so the Yankees may simply be trying to keep him close and on-turn to replace Domingo German.
- Giancarlo Stanton will begin his rehab with High-A Tampa on Tuesday, play another game Wednesday and then join Scranton for the next stage of his rehab Friday.
- Aaron Judge has been “ramping up” his hitting, according to Aaron Boone, and could be a rehab assignment this weekend.
First pitch tonight is at 7:05 p.m. on PIX 11 and SNY for those in the New York area. Enjoy!
UPDATE: The game got banged. Doubleheader Tuesday with this game at 1:05 with Tanaka vs. Zack Wheeler and then the scheduled nightcap of James Paxton vs. Vargas. No word yet on the 26th man for the twin bill.
