Game 64: Salvage The Series, Please

The last week has not been kind to the Yankees. Clint Frazier and the media had a spat, Domingo Germán is on the IL, the team passed on Dallas Keuchel, and the team has lost 5 of 6. Not great! Not great at all. At least Didi is back. But this is baseball, which means that the Yankees can stop their mini-skid in its tracks today. Onto the lineups:

New York Yankees (39-24)
1. DJ LeMahieu, 2B
2. Aaron Hicks, CF
3. Luke Voit, 1B
4. Gary Sánchez, C
5. Gleyber Torres, SS
6. Clint Frazier, DH
7. Brett Gardner, LF
8. Gio Urshela, 3B
9. Cameron Maybin, RF
Opener: Chad Green (1-2, 9.16 ERA)

Cleveland Indians (33-31)
1 Francisco Lindor, SS
2 Oscar Mercado, LF
3 Carlos Santana, DH
4 Jason Kipnis, 2B
5 Jordan Luplow, RF
6 José Ramírez, 3B
7 Roberto Peréz, C
8 Jake Bauers, 1B
9 Leonys Martin, CF
SP: Chad Bieber (5-2, 3.57 ERA)

Sure would be nice to get a win today, as the Yanks are tied for first with the Rays again. I prefer it when the Yankees are in first place by themselves. A hot take, I know. Separately, I am glad not to see Kendrys Morales in the lineup. About time.

News and notes:

  • Domingo Germán says that his hip has been hurting him since his 5/28 start against Kansas City. Not coincidentally, that’s the start when the ball started flying out of the yard off him. He says the pain has bothered him his last three starts, and, I have to say, I hate when players do this. I get it, you want to stay on the field, but it’s bad and often hurts the team. Germán is back in New York and will have an MRI.
  • With Germán’s injury, the Yankees will turn to another bullpen day later in the week, per Aaron Boone.
  • The Yankees called up Stephen Tarpley as the corresponding roster move.
  • Troy Tulowitzki is evaluating “everything” while at home, in what I suspect will be this year’s most dramatic injury update.
  • This is just a normal day of rest for Didi. Nothing is wrong. Remember, the Yanks are going to ease him back into things.

First game with my 3 year old. The terrible play is really disappointing

My first time seeing Beiber pitch. He looks… good.
