After missing the requisite ten days, CC Sabathia is back from the injured list to make tonight’s start against the Red Sox. Though the Yankees have already taken the series by winning the last two affairs, another victory tonight not only would complete a sweep but also would put the Yankees 10.5 games ahead of Boston. Moreover, Tampa Bay lost again this afternoon, meaning that the Yankees could create a 3.5 game separation from the Rays as well. Here are the lineups as the Bombers go for the sweep:
Red Sox
- Mookie Betts, CF
- Andrew Benintendi, LF
- JD Martinez, RF
- Xander Bogaerts, SS
- Rafel Devers, 3B
- Christian Vázquez, C
- Michael Chavis, 2B
- Eduardo Núñez, DH
- Sam Travis, 1B
LHP David Price
Yankees
- DJ LeMahieu, 2B
- Luke Voit, 1B
- Gary Sánchez, DH
- Aaron Hicks, CF
- Gleyber Torres, SS
- Gio Urshela, 3B
- Clint Frazier, RF
- Austin Romine, C
- Brett Gardner, LF
LHP CC Sabathia
A quick comment on the lineup before a handful of injury rehab updates. I don’t like Romine playing whatsoever. It’s not a day game after a night game and the Yankees are off tomorrow. Yes, Gary is still playing, but as I wrote before, Romine should only play when the Kraken absolutely needs a breather.
Injury Updates:
Greg Bird (foot), Dellin Betances (shoulder) & Aaron Judge (oblique) are heading to Tampa soon to ramp up their rehab, per Aaron Boone. Giancarlo Stanton (calf) has been running there. Troy Tulowitzki (calf) is pretty much over the injury & his rehab assignment being determined.

Tonight’s game is on ESPN and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. It looks like a few scattered thunderstorms will be in the area during the game, but hopefully not significant enough to cause a delay. Enjoy the ballgame!

CC’s pitches not crisp. Hopefully just a little rust and not a sign his knee is still bothering him, impacting his command.

Still, he got through 6 innings with 83 pitches. Such a competitor even when his knees have bothered him walking from the locker room to the bathroom…
