Game 43: Maybe win this time

Deivi makes his third big league start tonight.

If the Yankees have any aspirations of returning to second place in the division, avoiding a sweep by winning against the Blue Jays tonight would be a nice start. That would put the Yankees two games behind the Jays with seven head-to-head matchups remaining. Would be nice, don’t ya think? Can’t say I’m terribly optimistic, though. The Yankees have conditioned us for expecting the worst this season. Hopefully they prove us wrong tonight. Here are the lineups:

New York Yankees (21-21)

  1. DJ LeMahieu, 3B
  2. Luke Voit, 1B
  3. Aaron Hicks, CF
  4. Clint Frazier, RF
  5. Gleyber Torres, SS
  6. Miguel Andújar, DH
  7. Brett Gardner, LF
  8. Gary Sánchez, C
  9. Tyler Wade, 2B

RHP Deivi García

Toronto Blue Jays (24-18)

  1. Cavan Biggio, 2B
  2. Randal Grichuk, CF
  3. Travis Shaw, 1B
  4. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., DH
  5. Joe Panik, 3B
  6. Jonathan Villar, SS
  7. Caleb Joseph, C
  8. Derek Fisher, LF
  9. Jonathan Davis, RF

RHP Tanner Roark

  • The Blue Jays placed 1B/DH Rowdy Tellez on the injured list with a right knee strain. Ex-Yankee Billy McKinney has been called up in his place.
  • The Yankees optioned OF Estevan Florial to the Alternate Site after last night’s game to make room for Deivi.
  • This is García’s first big league start pitching to Sánchez. His “father”, Erik Kratz, caught him in his first two outings.

First pitch is 6:37 p.m. EDT. It’s on YES, MLB Network (out of market), WFAN, and WADO. Enjoy the ballgame.

Garcia looks like the real deal-he already knows how to pace himself and get stronger later in the game. Really impressive tonight.
