The Yankees and Mets face each other for the final time in 2020, barring some miraculous turnaround for the Yanks’ crosstown rivals. This is the final makeup game from the previous postponements as a result of COVID-19 positives on the Mets’ side. The Amazin’s haven’t been so amazing this season, so hopefully this will be a reprieve for the Bombers after disappointing finish to its season series against the Rays last night.
Today’s game comes a day after some sad news: Hall of Famer and Mets legend Tom Seaver passed away yesterday at 75 years-old. I presume the Mets will hold some sort of pregame tribute in remembrance of Tom Terrific. Seaver has a couple of Yankees connections, by the way. He won his 300th game on August 4th, 1985 at Yankee Stadium as a member of the White Sox. Additionally, Seaver worked as a commentator on Yankees’ telecasts on WPIX from 1989 to 1993. Rest in peace.

- Mike Ford changed his number from #72 to #36. Now he just needs to switch to hitting like it’s last September.
- The Yankees nominated Giancarlo Stanton for the 2020 Roberto Clemente Award.
- Gleyber Torres is at the Alternate Site in Scranton. The goal is to have him back with the Yankees at some point this weekend.

you can make an argument that seaver is still underrated. he’s one of the 10 greatest pitchers of all time
i remember win #300 last out was a towering fly ball by don baylor (?) that just missed going out
