Game 26: Let’s try this again

Take two: for the first time since last Thursday, the Yankees (should) play a baseball game. The problem? More bad weather incoming:

Things do clear up after 7, but any sustained storm could really throw a wrench into things for both team’s pitching plans. I’m sure the Yankees don’t want another Gerrit Cole start curtailed — it’d be awesome if he could throw a seven inning complete game (and we know he very well could). That’d give a nice relief to the pitching staff with all these doubleheaders upcoming.

Here are the lineups:

New York Yankees (16-9)

  1. Mike Tauchman, RF
  2. Luke Voit, 1B
  3. Aaron Hicks, CF
  4. Mike Ford, DH
  5. Gio Urshela, 3B
  6. Gary Sánchez, C
  7. Brett Gardner, LF
  8. Thairo Estrada, 2B
  9. Tyler Wade, SS

RHP Gerrit Cole

Atlanta Braves (16-12)

  1. Ronald Acuña Jr., CF
  2. Dansby Swanson, SS
  3. Freddie Freeman, 1B
  4. Marcell Ozuna, DH
  5. Nick Markakis, RF
  6. Adam Duvall, LF
  7. Austin Riley, 3B
  8. Tyler Flowers, C
  9. Johan Camargo, 2B

RHP Ian Anderson

News & Notes

  • This is the first of two games today, with the second starting approximately a half hour after the end of the first. As a reminder, each game today will be seven innings.
  • Aaron Judge is not starting. Aaron Boone is presumably easing him back into things and doesn’t want to play him both games today. If it’s anything more than that, I’m sure we’ll find out soon.
  • This is Ian Anderson’s major league debut. As I noted in the series preview, he’s from upstate New York and is one of the top pitching prospects in the game.
  • The Yankees made a small trade today. The team acquired catcher Rob Brantly from the Giants for cash. This is a depth move with Kyle Higashioka on the injured list and the retirement of Chris Iannetta.

The first of two games today starts at 4:10 p.m. EDT. It’s on YES, WADO, and WFAN.

Game 26: Gerrit and offense leave a lump of Cole

  1. I’ve been very disappointed in Cole this year, Derek. I just don’t think he’s a true ace. His consecutive win streak is about to go up in flames and he’s getting out dueled by a rookie who has never thrown a major league pitch. Stick a fork In this club, they’re done. Maybe we can start boycotting games like the NBA. That seems to be our only way out.

    • Gerreddardit Cole

What an atrocious effort in Game 1. Boycott Game 2 and spare us the misery. Brewers and NBA have taken the lead.

  2. CentralScrutinizer

Ian Anderson? Will there be a Jethro Tull concert between games? What the hell is Gardner doing in the lineup instead of Frazier?

  3. Guess who’s leading the majors in SLG & OPS?
