UPDATE, 7:13 p.m. EDT: And this one has been postponed. Of course. After I wrote they probably would be able to play even with rain in the forecast. Instead, they’ll play a doubleheader tomorrow starting around 4 p.m. That makes three doubleheaders this week.
It’s nice to have Yankees baseball back after four days without it. Tonight is the first of two down in Atlanta before the Yankees return home for the weekend. To get up to speed with where the Braves currently stand, be sure to read our series preview.
Aside from the Yankees resuming its schedule, the other big news is Aaron Judge’s return to the lineup. This came as expected, of course. He was eligible to return from the injured list over the weekend, and Aaron Boone indicated he was ready to go. Here are the lineups:
New York Yankees (16-9)
- Aaron Hicks, CF
- Aaron Judge, DH
- Luke Voit, 1B
- Mike Tauchman, RF
- Gio Urshela, 3B
- Gary Sánchez, C
- Brett Gardner, LF
- Thairo Estrada, 2B
- Tyler Wade, SS
RHP Gerrit Cole
Atlanta Braves (16-12)
- Ronald Acuña Jr., CF
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Freddie Freeman, 1B
- Marcell Ozuna, DH
- Travis d’Arnaud, C
- Nick Markakis, RF
- Adam Duvall, LF
- Austin Riley, 3B
- Johan Camargo, 2B
RHP Ian Anderson
News & Notes
- Aaron Judge is back! The Yankees reinstated him among a few other roster moves. The team recalled Miguel Andújar and Brooks Kriske, who effectively replace the injured Gleyber Torres and James Paxton on the roster (for now). Additionally, the Bombers placed Luis Avilán on the injured list.
- It rained quite a bit in Cobb County, Georgia today and we may see some more during the game. It seems like the worst of the day has passed, though. Wouldn’t be a 2020 Yankees game without a rain delay, so don’t be shocked if there is one.
This one is a 7:10 p.m. EDT first pitch on YES, WFAN, and WADO. Enjoy the ballgame.

They have no right to cancel these games, Derek. We’re now a week behind everyone else and have to play 35 games in 12 days. Why were we sitting around doing nothing yesterday? Play the games!

Where do we stand as far as Andujar’s service time? Was he at the alternate site long enough to get an extra year of control?
