Aaron Judge exited yesterday’s game in the ninth inning on defense, something that we have seen before earlier this year. And once again, manager Aaron Boone noted that he took it as an opportunity to get him some needed rest after feeling some lower body soreness in recent days.
From the sound of it, this is all part of the Yankees’ planned load management. Judge certainly looked fine at the plate yesterday, socking a home run. There wasn’t really anything noticeable on defense, either. Folks love to panic about Judge sitting, and somewhat understandably so given his injury history, but it’s good to see the Yankees taking precautions. Boone said before today’s game that the hope is Judge returns to the lineup tomorrow, anyway.
With that, here’s the Judge-less lineup and Baltimore lineup:

News & Notes
- As you can see, Gary Sánchez is sitting again. This isn’t a surprise as Higashioka continues to rake, and Boone has said he’s earned his time. Gary will catch tomorrow’s day game, barring something unforeseen. (Lindsey Adler)
- Is Giancarlo Stanton an option in the outfield, particularly now with Mike Tauchman gone? It’s under consideration. (Lindsey Adler)
- Gio Urshela’s back is feeling better and he’s been getting treatment. (Betelhem Ashame)
- Bullpen coach Mike Harkey is a fan of newly acquired Wandy Peralta. (Betelhem Ashame)
- Peralta should be available and on the roster tomorrow. (Pete Caldera)
This game’s first pitch is 7:05pm and can be seen on YES and heard on WFAN. Enjoy the ballgame.

And it’s a must win, Derek. That’s why Higgy is playing and he should be staring 4/5, games from here on out. If he works well with German tonight there’s no reason to pair Gary with him anymore.
I worry about Judge. I think he swings too hard. He has some sort of rib/side injury and everytime he swings it exacerbates the injury. It won’t heal as long as he keeps playing. And knowing Boone this minor soreness will require season ending surgery.
