Game 18: Frazier starts as Judge deals with “lower body tightness”

Deep sigh. First it was Giancarlo Stanton. Now, there’s concern about the Yankees’ other large outfielder. Aaron Judge is out of the lineup again today due to “lower body tightness”. He was pulled early from yesterday’s game, though Boone didn’t indicate it was anything ominous in the postgame. So much for that. He’s getting treatment today and the manager “hopes” Judge will be back in the lineup Friday after tomorrow’s off day. Good grief.

This also means that Clint Frazier makes his 2020 debut. Clint spoke to the media earlier this afternoon before the Judge news. The big thing to come out of it: Frazier discussed a meeting he had with Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone when he was optioned at the beginning of the season. It was a productive conversation even though he admitted that his situation has been frustrating. (Lindsey Adler)

News & Notes

  • Ronald Acuña Jr. is out of the lineup again for Atlanta. His wrist is still bothering him. Pretty concerning for the 22 year-old star, but a relief for the Yankees’ pitching staff.
  • Aroldis Chapman will throw another simulated game on Friday. He threw one yesterday and his fastball velocity ranged between 96 and 99 MPH. (James Wagner).
  • Pitching Coach Matt Blake believes James Paxton can get his velocity back to the upper 90s. That’d be a great development. (Brendan Kuty)

There were some pockets of thunderstorms in the tri-state area today, but we should be clear for tonight’s ballgame. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. EDT. YES has the telecast, and WFAN and WADO carry the radio broadcast as usual. Enjoy the game.

Jonathan Holder’s Early Resurgence May Be Tied to His Changeup

Game 18: The Clint Frazier and DJ LeMahieu Show

  1. Gerreddardit Cole

Gleyber just stood there and looked at 3 meatballs with the bases loaded. He just stood there. Where’s Tyler Wade? Even Gary has started hitting.

    • Gerreddardit Cole

Baseball Stories with Meredith and Ryan is must see tv. Can’t wait for John Flaherty’s turn.

  2. JG (Ben Francisco)

  3. Why does Boone have to lied to us all the time. We are all adults and can understand the situation. I hope the 3 holes in the lineup will step up and contribute to the offense. So pissed off.

  4. Gerreddardit Cole

I knew it, Derek. “Lower body tightness” means we won’t see Judge for a month. Next week it’ll be something more serious and he’ll go on the DL. If Clint wants to stay he needs to give them a reason to keep him like Gio and Voit have. This is his shot.
