Game 17: Back in Action

Happy Tuesday, everyone. The Yankees look to right their ship tonight against the Atlanta Braves. Here were a few things on my mind earlier today and here’s Derek’s great preview of all things Atlanta.

Here are today’s lineups (now corrected after the Acuña injury):

Atlanta Braves (11-7)
1. Dansby Swanson, SS
2. Travis d’Arnaud, DH
3. Freddie Freeman, 1B
4. Marcell Ozuna, RF
5. Adam Duvall, LF
6. Johan Camargo, 2B
7. Austin Riley, 3B
8. Tyler Flowers, C
9. Ender Inciarte, CF
Touki Toussaint, RHP

New York Yankees (10-6)
1. DJ LeMahieu, 2B
2. Aaron Judge, RF
3. Aaron Hicks, CF
4. Luke Voit, 1B
5. Gleyber Torres, SS
6. Mike Ford, DH
7. Gio Urshela, 3B
8. Gary Sánchez, C
9. Brett Gardner, LF
Jordan Montgomery, LHP

Pretty good lineup if you ask me. I love seeing Mike Ford get his opportunities to mash in the middle of the order as DH while Stanton is out of commission. It’s a big opportunity for him. Let’s also hope that Gumby rebounds from a poor start against Philadelphia last week.

News & Notes

  • Giancarlo Stanton has a Grade 1 hamstring strain, which means he won’t be back in action for 3-4 weeks at the earliest. That’s the best case scenario and it will cost him 40% of the season. Gah. (Lindsey Adler)
  • Aroldis Chapman will face live hitters today at the Alternative Site. (Max Goodman)
  • The Yankees recalled Clint Frazier today. It’s official now. I’m sure we’ll see him in the lineup soon. (James Wagner)
  • Nick Tropeano, who spent one day with the MLB squad, was claimed off waivers by the Pirates. The Yanks lose a depth arm, but Tropeano may get to pitch in Pittsburgh. (Yankees)
  • The team will continue to pay its Minor Leaguers through September 7. (Baseball America)
  • File this one under unsurprising news: there likely won’t be a Winter Meetings in 2020. (Andy Martino)
  • A look at the ~Alternative Site~ reveals a 470-foot blast from Estevan Florial against Domingo Acevedo. Here’s the video:

First pitch for this one is at 7:05 pm EDT. YES has the TV broadcast and WFAN/WADO have the radio, as usual. Enjoy the game, everyone.

Atlanta Braves Series Preview: 8/11 to 8/12

Game 17: Jordan Montgomery, Luke Voit Come Up Big as Yanks Beat Braves 9-6

  1. Gerreddardit Cole

Stanton’s injury was devastating but the loss of Higgy is almost as big. Gary is a .090 hitter and is just flailing away up there. Best Paulie and Coney could say about him is he’s hitting foul balls. And he had another passed ball that didn’t hit the dirt. If Higgy were healthy it’d be an easy decision to bench Gary but for now I guess we just have to live with the laziness.

  2. Gerreddardit Cole

Those two clowns in the middle infield need to get their act together. Communicate! Boone’s head should roll if they lose this and Judge is healthy.

  3. Gerreddardit Cole

Then he brings in David Hale. This lead ain’t safe at all.

  4. Gerreddardit Cole

Boone removes the greatest player that ever lived in the 6th inning up 5 runs. He has to be hurt. We’ll hear after the game that he swung too hard on that mammoth dinger and he’ll be out for a month.
