Game 149: Bubble wrap and a win?

For the second time in two months, the Yankees had players get hurt in both ends of a doubleheader Thursday.

Edwin Encarnacion and Gary Sanchez both could miss most, if not all, of the remaining regular season games with injury. J.A. Happ is dealing with a biceps issue. Two costly games.

At the same time, the Yankees won both games and inched closer to a playoff berth and potential homefield throughout the postseason. They have the best record in baseball.

So I humbly make a bold request: Can they try to win a game AND stay healthy? Just placed everyone in bubble wrapping before they take the field. It’s a lot for the 2019 Yankees, but hey, figured I’d ask.

News & Notes

  • Sanchez has a groin strain and Encarnacion has an oblique strain, Aaron Boone said. He expressed optimism that Edwin’s injury is minor and that Sanchez can return before the end of the season.
  • Just a normal day off for Aaron Judge after he played both ends of the doubleheader yesterday. He ran into the wall pretty hard making a catch in Game 2, but he played the final five innings without ill-effects.
  • Happ got a cortisone shot and hopes to pitch in the coming homestand.
  • Jordan Montgomery will likely make his season debut Sunday, while CC Sabathia will start sometime next week. Boone said he could pitch in relief at some point in the final week of the season.
  • After getting DFA’d earlier in the week, Adonis Rosa was outrighted off the 40-man roster and will stay in the organization.

Tonight’s game is a 7:07 p.m. start at Rogers Centre on YES and WFAN. Enjoy your evening!
