Edwin Encarnación is active and back in the Yankees’ lineup.
The designated hitter needed just 4.5 weeks of rest and two rehab games to return, giving the Bombers a jolt a day after their scoring streak ended. It’s just in time, too; Encarnación might need a fair number of the next 25 games to get his bat ready for October.
If all goes well, we won’t see any slides quite like this:

While he’s been gone, the Yankees have done just fine and are tied for baseball’s best record. They’ll have James Paxton on the hill tonight as he looks to ride the vibes of his undefeated August into the season’s final month.

News & Notes
- Dellin Betances pitched some BP today, including throwing some pitches to Giancarlo Stanton. Though Stanton got him for a loud knock, Betances felt good about his outing.
- Encarnación says he doesn’t feel any remaining pain in his wrist.
- It sounds like both Betances and Luis Severino will play rehab games in Scranton during the International League postseason after the RailRiders won an insane one-game playoff with an eight-run eighth inning.
Tonight’s game is an early 6:35 p.m. start on YES and WFAN.

Dominant start by Paxton. That’s what I like to see. He has to keep it going!
