As I wrote about earlier, today’s Yankees-Mariners game has a local marquee matchup with James Paxton facing Justus Sheffield. Paxton is coming off one of his best starts of the season, while Sheffield is making his second start in his return from Double-A.

The Yankees aren’t a great matchup for Sheffield. The team is batting .277/.349/.503 with a 121 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers this season and are coming off another dominant start against a lefty in Yusei Kikuchi.

The Bombers are tied for the best record in baseball. If they want to stay that way, sweeping the Mariners would be a nice step. Dispatching with a team such as the M’s is what great teams do.
