Game 121: The fourth quarter

The Yankees have completed 120 games. That means they will have completed 75 percent of their schedule after tonight’s game.

As I type, the Astros are tied with the White Sox in a star-studded doubleheader, which is being started by Gerrit Cole and Zack Greinke. That surely beats a James Paxton-Chad Green combo from yesterday, but that duo walked away with the night’s best game scores among all MLB starters. Can’t predict baseball.

If the Yankees want to stay ahead of the Astros at this checkpoint, they’ll need to do something they’ve done 15 times already this season: Beat the Orioles. The Bombers have won 14 straight against the Birds and Gleyber Torres tries to tie an 83-year-old record by hitting his 14th homer of the season against Baltimore. Please keep a good watch on Gary Thorne.

Here are the lineups for tonight’s contest:

  2. Trey Mancini, DH
  3. Anthony Santander, RF
  4. Renato Nunez, 1B

News & Notes

  • Yankees made some pitching changes to shuffle in fresh arms; Jonathan Loaisiga was activated from the 60-day IL while RHP Adonis Rosa was selected from Triple-A. To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP Daniel Camarena was released while LHP Joe Mantiply was DFA’d.
  • Loaisiga is built up to about four innings/65 pitches out of the bullpen, Aaron Boone told reporters.
  • Boone also said that the Yanks will likely go back to a three-man bench soon after spending a few days at just two.
  • Giancarlo Stanton is getting close to workouts. He’s eligible to come off the 60-day IL on Aug. 26.

It’ll be a 7:05 p.m. start on YES and WFAN, weather permitting. There may be showers during the game, though it’s looking like the Yanks and O’s can avoid a delay. Should be about 298.7 degrees Kelvin, so nice summer weather. Enjoy!

I was hoping they were going to let Loaisiga loose as a 1 inning guy. I think he could be a difference maker in that role.

    • Jimmy

Has Jordan Montgomery been ruled out yet or is he a possible asset for later this season? We haven’t heard anything about him in a couple of weeks. Another solid pitcher returning.
