Game 114: One last game in Baltimore

There are some things you have to hold dear in life. Friends, Family, games against the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees have just five of the latter left this season, and tonight is the final matchup at Camden Yards.

The Bombers have won 14 straight at OPACY. They’ve hit 38 homers there this season. No matter who is in the lineup, the Orioles haven’t put up much fight to the Yankees this season. No Gleyber Torres? No Gary Sanchez or Clint Frazier or Giancarlo Stanton? No problem.

So with one more game to extend their franchise and MLB records, it’ll be James Paxton facing John Means with two lineups that best resemble a mid-March Grapefruit League duel in Sarasota.

Here are those aforementioned lineups:

Yankees (74-39)

  1. DJ LeMahieu, 1B
  2. Aaron Judge, DH
  3. Gio Urshela, 3B
  4. Didi Gregorius, SS
  5. Cameron Maybin, RF
  6. Brett Gardner, CF
  7. Kyle Higashioka, C
  8. Mike Tauchman, LF
  9. Breyvic Valera, 2B

LHP James Paxton

Orioles (38-75)

  1. Hanser Alberto, LF
  2. Trey Mancini, RF
  3. Anthony Santander, DH
  4. Renato Nunez, 3B
  5. Jonathan Villar, 2B
  6. Pedro Severino, C
  7. Stevie Wilkerson, CF
  8. Chris Davis, 1B
  9. Richie Martin, SS

LHP John Means

News & Notes

  • Gleyber Torres underwent tests back in New York and they all came back negative, so he is day-to-day. The team brought Thairo Estrada to Baltimore in case of a potential move, but they’re sending him back to Triple-A without placing Torres on the IL.
  • That means the Yankees are playing with just two bench players today: Austin Romine and Mike Ford.
  • Gary Sanchez is starting his rehab assignment with Scranton today. It is expected to last two days.
  • Chance Adams was called up for Stephen Tarpley after yesterday’s bullpen game.
  • Giancarlo Stanton news!

Hopefully, that means Stanton is back soon. For tonight, it’ll be a 7:05 p.m. start on YES. Weather in the Charm City is supposed to be low-70s and cloudy.

As the postseason beckons, a few items remain on the Yankees’ to do list

Game 114: Nine road batters walked into Camden Yards. You know the rest of the joke.

I mentioned this in last night’s game post, but I’m not positive that them finding nothing wrong with Torres is the best news. A mystery pain popping up once is something you can shrug off. But again, 2 days later? That’s disconcerting. Fingers crossed….
