When you have multiple men on and no one out, ideally you’d like to drive them home. Not perfect but satisfactory would be advancing the runners into scoring position, the ole productive out. You definitely don’t want to make two outs. Three is the literal worst-case scenario.

The Yankees didn’t follow that very well yesterday with two key double plays and a momentum-killing triple play. Ish happens. That was yesterday; Today is today.

So with Domingo German on the mound and a still tired Twins pitching staff ready for the taking, let’s hope the Yankees aren’t feeling a redux of Monday’s opener.

News & Notes

  • Cameron Maybin began a rehab assignment with Scranton Wilkes-Barre tonight, so he could be back within a week. That means either Mike Tauchman or the eighth reliever is on thin ice (or someone may be going to the IL…)
  • Another day off for Brett Gardner, who must be feeling it with his sore knee. Tauchman has filled in fine, but Gardner’s second-half injuries/swoons are a recurring thing at this point. Hope he can avoid an IL stint at this point.
  • Seems like a normal day off for DJ LeMahieu.
  • Albert Abreu left his start early with an apparent shoulder injury in Trenton, so I’ll have the latest on that with DoTF tonight.

Tonight’s game is an 8:10 p.m. start on YES. It’s supposed to clear with zero percent chance of rain during the game, so enjoy a hopefully interrupted baseball game!
