DoTF: Volpe Mashes; Seigler Hits Walk Off Grand Slam

The RailRiders improved to 31-13 (love a good palindrome) on the season after dispatching the IronPigs 10-4 on Saturday. They trailed after 2, but held a 9-0 lead after 6. That was that, as they say. An easy win with good pitching and hitting. They should all be like that.

The Patriots are 31-15 following their 3-0 victory over the Sea Dogs. They allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 11. All of their runs scored in the 4th inning.

High-A Hudson Valley Renegades

The ‘Gades are 30-16 following their 8-4 victory over the Blue Rocks. It wasn’t a great night for ‘Gades pitching, but they did enough. The team scored 6 runs in the final 3 frames, including 4 in the 9th, to win it. It was a walkoff grand slam! From Anthony Seigler. Good stuff.

  • First Round Watch: C Anthony Seigler: 1-4, HR, 4 RBI – he’s struggled this year, but he sure made his hit count in this one

  • Leftovers: Ezequiel Duran worked 2 walks but was hitless…Brandon Lockridge, Elijah Dunham, and Pablo Olivares had the other Hudson Valley hits

Single-A Tampa Tarpons Game 1

The Tarpons fell to 30-15 after today’s initial 7-5 loss to the Flying Tigers. It was a tough loss, as the team gave up 3 runs in the 6th and penultimate frame.

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Matt Sauer: 4.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 K – 60% of his pitches were strikes
  • In Relief: RHP Jhonatan Munoz: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 K – 79% of his pitches were strikes
  • First Round Watch: DH Anthony Volpe: 1-1, 2 R, 2B, 1 BB, 1 SB
  • First Round Watch: C Austin Wells: 1-4, 1 K – left 6 on base
  • Multi-Hit Watch: CF Pat DeMarco: 2-4, 1 R
  • Multi-Hit Watch: 1B Pedro Diaz: 2-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB
  • Leftovers: Jake Sanford, Andres Chaparro, and Juan De Leon had the other hits…good offensive performance (they went 4-9 with RISP) but it wasn’t enough overall

Single-A Tampa Tarpons Game 2

Ah, but we didn’t expect two losses in one day from the farm, did we? Of course not. The Tarpons corrected the course in the second game and improved to 31-15 on the season, dispatching the Flying Tigers 6-5 in the second game.

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Randy Vasquez: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R (0 ER), 3 BB, 6 K – 61% of his pitches were strikes…fell victim to an error by Jesus Bastidas in the first that netted 2 and a throwing error in the 3rd that resulted in the third and final run
  • In Relief: RHP Nelvin Correa: 1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 B, 1 K – 47% of his pitches were strikes
  • In Relief: RHP Carson Coleman: 1.0 IP, zeros, 2 K – 60% of his pitches were strikes…earned his 2nd win
  • In Relief: RHP Tanner Myatt: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K – 75% of his pitches were strikes…earned his 1st save
  • First Round Watch: SS Anthony Volpe: 3-4, 3 R, 2B, HR, 1 RBI, 1 SB – have yourself a day, huh

    Crazy how strong the farm is this year. They’re straight up dominating at every level. Every affiliate is winning 2 out of 3, that’s insane! When – if ever – was the last time that happened?
