Notes

  • Matt Kardos of Pinstriped Prospects wrote a long piece on Deivi Garcia’s adjustment to Double-A Trenton. For added measure, he includes some video of Garcia’s outings. Definitely check this piece out on the Yankees’ top prospect.
  • MiLB.com’s Sam Dykstra put together his personal ballot for the Triple-A All-Star Game. He included two Yankee farmhands: Mike Ford at first base and Ryan McBroom at DH. Worth the read on some of the best players at the next-best level.
  • The Nationals signed former Yankees draft pick Dante Bichette Jr. to a Minor League deal last week. He had been playing for High Point in the Atlantic League.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders: (7-6 win at Norfolk) … Maintains 5.5 game lead in the division.

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Randall Delgado: 4 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, 5/5 GB/FB — 49 of his 86 pitches (67%) were strikes … His shakiest start since his Scranton debut.
  • In Relief: RHP Danny Farquhar: 1 2/3 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, 1 HBP — Not ideal, but amazing that he’s back on a mound. 16.20 ERA is nothing compared to what he’s been through.
  • In Relief: RHP Matt Joe Harvey: 1 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K — Earned the save.
  • Hitting Star: 1B Mike Ford: 2-for-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R — 15 homers at Triple-A despite spending time in the Majors.
  • Hitting Star No. 2: 2B Thairo Estrada: 3-for-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 SB — Folks, the #SummerOfThairo is back … His first hits since his demotion.
  • Other Notables: SS Tyler Wade went 2-for-5 with 2-run homer and a stolen base … 1B Logan Morrison each went 0-for-4 … 3B Breyvic Valera had a triple in four ABs.

Double-A Trenton Thunder: (7-2 win at Binghamton) … Regain lead in their division with just six days left in the first half.

  • Hitting Star: 3B Mandy Alvarez: 3-for-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI — Has brought OPS from .647 to .718 in last six days.
  • On Deck: 2B Hoy Jun Park: 2-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 SB, 1 CS — Batting .308 this year.
  • Other Notables: LF Ben Ruta and 1B Chris Gittens each had one hit and an RBI, Ruta had a double SS Kyle Holder went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored … C Kellin Deglan went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI … CF Matt Lipka tripled.

  2. Thanks for this! , Verlander with 15ks… boy that cheap hal move that keeps on giving. Lost us the chance at the world series, and god knows what’s coming this year.

      Verlander was a gamble that worked out spectacularly for the Astros, in part because their staff has been phenomenal at improving pitchers. You can’t say that about the Yankees.
