Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders

Lehigh Valley topped the RailRiders earlier today, 5-4 (box score). SWB stranded 13 runners this afternoon after getting off to a hot start thanks to Chris Gittens’ three-run homer in the first.

  • Starting pitcher: RHP Deivi García: 5.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 2 HBP, 2 WP — 55 of 101 pitches were strikes (54%)…Got off to an awful start, but rebounded nicely. His first inning was ugly and featured two walks, two hit batters, and two wild pitches. He gave up another run in the second, but then went on to retire ten straight and pitch into the sixth.
  • In relief: RHP Ron Marinaccio: 1.2 IP, 2 K, zeroes — 15 of 20 pitches were strikes (75%)
  • In relief: RHP Adam Warren: 1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K — 14 of 20 pitches were strikes (70%)
  • In relief: RHP Sal Romano: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K — 12 of 17 pitches were strikes (71%)
  • Hitting star: DH Chris Gittens: 1-3, R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB — Three straight games with a homer…He’s pulverizing Triple-A pitching; has a 1.270 OPS in 114 PA.

  • Leftovers: PH Greg Allen, CF Ryan LaMarre, C Donny Sands, 2B Kyle Holder, and 3B Max Burt each had a hit. LaMarre’s was a double.

Double-A Somerset Patriots

The Patriots fell to the Sea Dogs, 10-5 (box score). The Kraken started his rehab assignment, but Clint Frazier was scratched without reason. That’s concerning.

  • In relief: RHP Jefry Valdez: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K — 20 of 28 pitches were strikes (71%)

  • In relief: RHP Zach Greene: 1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 HR — 15 of 18 pitches were strikes (83%)
  • Rehab watch: C Gary Sánchez: 0-2, BB — Played five innings in first rehab game, could be back as early as Tuesday
  • Locked in: CF Brandon Lockridge: 2-3, R, 2B, BB, K, 2 SB — 5th round pick in 2018 seemed like he was on the bubble to be protected in the Rule 5 this coming offseason. He struggled with Hudson Valley (.717 OPS), but has a .966 OPS in 124 post-promotion plate appearances, and now looks like a strong candidate to be protected.
  • Homer hitters: 1B Dermis García, 3B Chad Bell, and DH Thomas Milone went yard.
  • Leftovers: C Josh Breaux and SS Oswaldo Cabrera went hitless…Breaux replaced Sánchez midway through, as planned. Everyone else in the lineup had a hit.

  • In relief: RHP Charlie Ruegger: 2.0 IP, 1 K, zeroes — 12 of 17 pitches were strikes (71%)
  • In relief: RHP Nelson Alvarez: 1.0 IP, 1 K, zeroes — 10 of 14 pitches were strikes (71%)

  • The Martian: CF Jasson Dominguez: 1-5, R, 2 K — 34 strikeouts in 101 plate appearances with Tampa…Hitting .242/.297/.374 at the level. Somewhat disappointing, but he’s still just 18 years-old, of course.
  • Leftovers: 1B Tyler Hardman had two hits, including a game tying RBI single in the 9th…C Ben Rice walked it off with a single in the 10th…Every Tarpon reached base in this one.
