News & Notes

Got several promotions to pass along courtesy Eli Fishman on Twitter:

  • Moving from FCL to Low-A Tampa: C Ben Rice, INF Cooper Bowman, INF Ben Cowles, INF Tyler Hardman, INF Trey Sweeney, OF Madison Santos…Sweeney was the Yankees 1st round pick in this year’s draft. All except Santos are 2021 draftees.
  • Moving to High-A Hudson Valley: P Frecier Perez, OF Everson Pereira, C Austin Wells…Perez is on a rehab assignment, Pereira was nearly traded to Texas in the Gallo deal, and Wells was the 2020 1st round pick.
  • Rehab Watch: Luis Severino will make a rehab appearance for AA Somerset tomorrow.

All had their regularly scheduled Monday day off.

Florida Complex League Yankees

Game 1: The FCL Yankees fell to Tigers East 9-6 in game one of the double header despite home runs from Cooper Bowman, Anthony Garcia, and Raimfer Salinas . They gave up 4 in the 2nd and 5 in the 6th.

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Harold Cortijo: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K
  • In Relief: RHP Nolan Martinez: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K
  • In Relief: RHP Edward Paredes: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • In Relief: RHP Kenlly Montas: 2.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 3 K – hard luck loss and blown save giving up a 3-run hr after an error
  • Offensive Star: SS Alexandar Vargas: 2-4, 1 R
  • Homer Watch: 2B Cooper Bowman, 1B Anthony Garcia, & CF Raimfer Salinas each had a home run.

Game 2: The FCL Yanks won game 2 against the Tigers East 3-0 behind a strong start from Juan Carela. They are 16-6 thus far.

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Juan Carela: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
  • In Relief: RHP Jarod Lessar: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
  • In Relief: RHP Christian Sumoza: 1.0 IP, zeroes, 1 K
  • Offensive Star: CF Madison Santos: 2-3, 1 2B, 3B, 2 RBI – hell of a way to get yourself promoted
  • First Round Watch: SS Trey Sweeney: 1-1, 2 BB, 2 R – last game at the FCL site

Dominican Summer League

The DSL Yankees 1 won their game 5-4 over the DSL Cardinals Blue to move to 7-8 on the year.

The DSL Yankees 2 fell 6-5 against the DSL Brewers 2. They are 9-6 overall.

    All the promotions and roster movement is a necessity with the incoming players from the Amateur Draft, and multiple openings caused by the Yankees trades.
