Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders

Tough loss for the RailRiders. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first, Rochester worked its way back into this one and eventually won on prospect Luis García’s walk-off two-run homer in the ninth. The final: 5-3 (box score). The RailRiders are 11-4.

  • In relief: RHP Brooks Kriske: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HR – 20 of 33 pitches were strikes (61%)
  • In relief: LHP Nestor Cortes: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K, HR – 20 of 29 pitches were strikes (69%)…Had pitched 9 scoreless innings this season until he gave up the walk-off homer.
  • Following Florial: CF Estevan Florial: 1-4, 2B, BB, K, CS – Much better after striking out in 8 of 14 plate appearances in previous three games
  • Good start: 2B Hoy Jun Park: 1-4, R, 2B, 2 K – Reached base in 6 of 14 Triple-A plate appearances, nice start since bump from Somerset
  • Leftovers: DH Socrates Brito, LF Thomas Milone, and 3B Armando Alvarez each had a hit, Brito’s a double…1B Brandon Wagner had two

Double-A Somerset Patriots

The offense may have scored 11 runs, but tonight’s starter, Glenn Otto, was the story of this one. Somerset topped Hartford 11-1 (box score) and is now 10-5.

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Glenn Otto: 5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 14 K – 53 of 85 pitches were strike (63%)…Holy crap. Just two outs were not strikeouts. Yard Goats didn’t put a ball in play until bottom of third inning. Lost a no hitter in the fifth.
  • In relief: RHP Ron Marinaccio: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K – 20 of 36 pitches were strikes (56%)
  • In relief: RHP Reid Anderson: 1.0 IP, zeroes – 4 of 6 pitches were strikes (67%)
  • In relief: RHP Kevin Gadea: 1.0 IP, zeroes, 2 BB, 1 K – 12 of 23 pitches were strikes (52%)
  • Hitting co-star: CF Michael Beltre: 4-6, 3 R, 3B, 2 RBI
  • Hitting co-star: 3B Oliver Dunn: 3-5, 4 R, 2B, HR, RBI, BB, 2 K – First big game at this level since 2019 11th rounder’s promotion from Hudson Valley
  • Leftovers: Everyone in the lineup had a hit…everyone in the lineup had a RBI except LF Matt Pita. RF Aaron Palensky, DH Donny Sands, and 1B Dermis García had multi-hit games.

High-A Hudson Valley Renegades

Hudson Valley topped Brooklyn, 6-1 (box score). Nice rebound from yesterday’s 14-0 drubbing at the hands of the Cyclones. The Renegades are back above .500 at 8-7.

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Luis Medina: 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 11 K – 49 of 76 pitches were strikes (64%)Single game career high in strikeouts…Now has a 1.45 ERA and .086 batting average against in 18.2 innings.
  • In relief: RHP Elvis Peguero: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K – 23 of 42 pitches were strikes (55%)
  • In relief: LHP Matt Minnick: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K – 6 of 10 pitches were strikes (60%)
  • Hitting star: SS Ezequiel Duran: 2-4, R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, CS, E – Two-run homer in fifth broke 1-1 tie…His first homer of the year...21 year-old now hitting .339/.371/.525 and is in the midst of a 10-for-16 hot streak.
  • Prospect watch: DH Oswald Peraza: 2-5, 2 R, 2B, K – Went 0-for-8 to start this series against Brooklyn, so a nice bounce back game.
  • Whoa Breaux: C Josh Breaux: 0-4, K – Really, really struggling. Down to .123/.194/.246 with 22 strikeouts in 62 plate appearances.
  • Leftovers: 3B James Nelson, LF Isaiah Pasteur, and 2B Eduardo Torrealba had one hit a piece

Single-A Tampa Tarpons

What a lineup. Tampa improves to 11-4 with a 16 run outburst defeating Fort Myers 16-4 (box score).

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Randy Vasquez: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB – 14 of 33 pitches were strikes (42%)…Just didn’t have it tonight.
  • In relief: RHP Zach Kohn: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K – 18 of 41 pitches were strikes (44%)…This must have been a brutal first couple of innings to watch
  • In relief: RHP Nelvin Correa: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K – 29 of 47 pitches were strikes (62%)…Brought some stability to this game.
  • In relief: RHP Connor Pellerin: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR – 13 of 29 pitches were strikes (45%)
  • In relief: RHP Blane Abeyta: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K – 24 of 40 pitches were strikes (60%)
  • Hauver Heat Check: 2B Trevor Hauver: 2-4, 2 R, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, BB, K – He can’t be stopped…OPS sits at 1.398, though he hasn’t homered since May 9th…slouch.
  • First round watch: DH Anthony Volpe: 0-3, 4 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 3 SB – Now has 9 steals
  • First round watch: C Austin Wells: 2-3, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 2B, 1 BB, 1 K – Hasn’t had an issue getting on base, just waiting to see him hit for some more power (.417 SLG). Those doubles hopefully will turn into homers in time.
  • Leftovers: 3B Andres Chaparro had two hits, including a double…also stole a base…CF Pat DeMarco had a base hit and two steals
