The RailRiders blew out Lehigh Valley in a rain-shortened affair, 10-3 (box score).

Double-A Somerset Patriots

After staking out a 5-1 lead in the first, the Patriots gave up 7 in the second inning to lose this one, 8-7 (box score). Corey Kluber made his first rehab appearance.

  • Rehab watch: Starting pitcher: RHP Corey Kluber: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, WP — 20 of 45 pitches were strikes (44%)…Yeah, clearly dusting off the cobwebs in this one. It was his first rehab start.
  • In relief: LHP Ken Waldichuk: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HR — 57 of 90 pitches were strikes (63%)…First time he hasn’t struck out more than a batter per inning in a game since his first start of the season.
  • In relief: RHP Zach Greene: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K — 30 of 36 pitches were strikes (83%)…8th rounder in 2019 is having a really good year in the bullpen. 69 strikeouts in 45 innings between Hudson Valley and Somerset this year.
  • Prospect watch: CF Brandon Lockridge: 2-5, 2 R, 2B, K — Back in the saddle after a rare no-hit game yesterday. Hitting .324 with Somerset.
  • Prospect watch: SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-4, R, BB — Has a nine game hitting streak, this is the first one of the nine that was a multi-hit game
  • Prospect watch: C Josh Breaux: 2-5, R, 2 2B, RBI, K — Maybe we’ll start seeing some of his power again…Lone extra base hit since his promotion was a homer in his second game on August 4th
  • Rehab watch: 1B Chris Gittens: 2-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K — Should be back in Scranton soon.
  • Leftovers: DH Dermis García had three hits including a double…RF Michael Beltre homered…RF Isiah Gilliam picked up the lone other hit for the Patriots.

High-A Hudson Valley Renegades

The Renegades beat the BlueClaws, 8-4 (box score). Just wait until you see what Everson Pereira did.

  • Starting pitcher: RHP Matt Sauer: 6.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K — 67 of 92 pitches were strikes (73%)…Really nice outing in his second start since the bump up from Tampa
  • In relief: RHP Charlie Ruegger: 1.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR — 26 of 42 pitches were strikes (62%)
  • In relief: RHP Derek Craft: 1.1 IP, 2 K, zeroes — 11 of 17 pitches were strikes (65%)
  • Hitting star: DH Everson Pereira: 5-5, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI – WHOA. Small sample size alert, but this raised his line with HV from .231/.394/.500 to .355/.474/.774.
  • Prospect watch: C Austin Wells: 0-5, 2 K — Rough one, but it happens.
  • Prospect watch: RF Jake Sanford: 2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB — Hitting .297/.370/.466 in time split with Tampa and Hudson Valley this season
  • Leftovers: 1B Kyle MacDonald tallied three hits…Everyone other than Wells and LF Pat DeMarco had hits in this one.

FCL Yankees

The FCL Yanks toppled the FCL Tigers West, 14-4 (box score).

  • Starting pitcher: RHP Ocean Gabonia: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K — First pro game for the undrafted free agent who signed with the team last summer. Hails from Hawaii and attended Everett Community College in Washington.
  • In relief: RHP Josue Panacual: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
  • In relief: RHP Kenlly Montas: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K

  • Leftovers: CF Grant Richardson and RF Jake Pries had three hits each. Richardson was a homer short of the cycle, whereas Pries was a triple short of the cycle. 1B Anthony García singled, walked three times, and stole three bases.

The Tampa Tarpons’ scheduled double header was postponed to tomorrow.
