DoTF: Holder Roughed Up in Triple-A as Scranton Loses

News and Notes:

  • Futures Game: Deivi Garcia will represent the Yankees in the Futures Game in July. He will be the only representative, but boy is he a good one. He’s my favorite prospect in a long, long time and he’s striking out 40% of the batters he faces in Trenton. He turned 20 just before our blog was born. Seems good!
  • Spin-Rate Wonkery: On another note, Deivi’s participation means something else exciting: we’ll get access to spin-rate data from Garcia if he pitches. Keith Law just wrote (subs req’d) about Deivi the other day, saying his FB doesn’t have exceptional spin…but word is that his curve comes close to 3,000, which is top-of-the-line stuff. I want to see it for myself, because hot damn. For the 100th time, check this out:
  • Big Sunday to Triple-A: Domingo Acevedo has been promoted from Double-A Trenton to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, per Matt Kardos. The 6-foot-7, 250 pound 25-year-old will now test his chops in Triple-A for the first time after pitching to a 3.86 ERA in Trenton this year.
  • Roster Moves: RHP Braden Bristo was prompted from Tampa to Double-A Trenton, LHP Anderson Severino (not Luis’ brother Rafael) returned from his MiLB rehab assignment and was activated off the 7-day IL, as was INF/OF Steven Sensley, all per the Tampa Tarpon’s Twitter.

I’m not a fan of showcasing Frazier. With Hicks and Stanton seemingly fragile, and Gardner toasty, they need him in New York.

So is Acevedo now just a reliever?

    • CountryClub

Yeah. He was really struggling in the role earlier this year. But he’s taken a full run off his ERA in the past month.
