Triple-A Scranton RailRiders

This was a wild one. Scranton blew two separate three-run leads in this game, only to eventually top Rochester with a go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, 9-8 (box score).

  • Starting Pitcher: RHP Deivi García: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HR – 41 of 75 pitches were strikes (55%)a step back after two really good starts in which it seemed like he had harnessed his control…not so much in this one.
  • In relief: RHP Reggie McClain: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K – 20 of 28 pitches were strikes (71%)…inherited two of Deivi’s baserunners, allowed one to score
  • In relief: RHP Albert Abreu: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K – 20 of 25 pitches were strikes (80%)…don’t usually see that many strikes from Abreu.
  • In relief: LHP Trevor Lane: 0.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 K – 13 of 19 pitches were strikes (68%)…somehow got credit for a hold
  • In relief: RHP Adam Warren: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB – 8 of 21 pitches were strikes (38%)…allowed one of two inherited runners from Lane to score
  • In relief: RHP Nick Goody: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K – 11 of 19 pitches were strikes (58%)
  • Playing hero: C Kellin Deglan: 2-5, R, RBI, 3 K – RBI single in the ninth gave Scranton the lead for good
  • Florial watch: CF Estevan Florial: 2-6, 2 R, HR, RBI – Second homer with Scranton. What’s better: didn’t strike out. Video of homer below.
  • Leftovers: LF Thomas Milone, RF Socrates Brito, and 3B Armando Alvarez all had two-hits games and an RBI a piece…DH Hoy Jun Park, SS Andrew Velazquez, and 2B Cristian Perez had hits…only player not to have a hit was 1B Brandon Wagner, but he walked twice.

Double-A Somerset Patriots

This was a pretty close game up until this ninth. Up 4-2 through eight frames, Somerset tacked on three in the ninth to put the victory away, 7-2 (box score).

  • Starting pitcher: RHP Shawn Semple: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K – 36 of 51 pitches were strikes (71%)
  • In relief: RHP Reid Anderson: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 1 HR – 28 of 44 pitches were strikes (64%)
  • In relief: RHP Michael Gomez: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K – 23 of 37 pitches were strikes (62%)
  • In relief: RHP Greg Weissert: 1.0 IP, zeroes – 7 of 9 pitches were strikes (78%)
  • Power display: 1B Dermis García: 2-4, R, 2B, HR, RBI, BB – has homered in four of his last five games. Didn’t strike out, and has just three strike outs in his last five games
  • Leftovers: Everyone had a hit in this one, with the team racking up 14 total. SS Max Burt hit a two-run homer in the fourth that gave the Patriots the lead…3B Oliver Dunn drove in two runs with a single in the ninth after 2B Matt Pita stole home

High-A Hudson Valley Renegades

The Renegades held off Brooklyn, 5-3 (box score). Hudson Valley scored all of its runs in the third and fourth innings, going up 5-0 fairly early.

  • Starting pitcher: LHP Ken Waldichuk: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K – 47 of 74 pitches were strikes (64%)…now has 29 strikeouts in 14.1 IP and hasn’t allowed a run2019 5th rounder might need a new challenge soon. Video below.

  • In relief: RHP Tanner Myatt: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K – 23 of 38 pitches were strikes (61%)
  • Hitting star: 2B Eduardo Torrealba: 4-4, R, RBI – 9th hitter in the lineup set the table for the top of the order…brought his average up from .111 to .385
  • Prospect watch: SS Oswald Peraza: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI, BB – hitting .313/.395/.597
  • Prospect watch: DH Ezequiel Duran: 1-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K, CS – Been a pretty good start for him, though you’d like to see some improvement in his 16:1 K:BB ratio in 71 plate appearances
  • Leftovers: Not much offense elsewhere in the lineup…1B Eric Wagaman chipped in two singles, while LF Frederick Cuevas and C Saul Torres both had hits

Single-A Tampa Tarpons

Ho hum, another offensive outburst. Tampa demolished Fort Myers, 13-0 (box score).

  • Starting pitcher: RHP Sean Boyle: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K – 31 of 48 pitches were strikes (65%) – Has a 14:1 K:BB ratio and 0.71 ERA in 12.2 IP
  • In relief: RHP Trevor Holloway: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K – 30 of 40 pitches were strikes (75%)
  • In relief: RHP Derek Craft: 2.0 IP, zeroes, 4 K – 16 of 27 pitches were strikes (59%)
  • In relief: LHP Clay Aguilar: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K – 15 of 22 pitches were strikes (68%)
  • Hitting co-star: LF Elijah Dunham: 4-4, 2 2B, 3B, 3 R, 4 RBI – Homer short of the cycle

  • Hauver Heat Check: DH Trevor Hauver: 1-4, R, 2 BB, 3 K – Would have thought he’d be right in the middle of this one, and he was on base three times, but only scored once
  • First rounder: SS Anthony Volpe: 2-5, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB – 10-for-10 in stolen base attempts this season, but keep in mind pitchers are allowed only two pickoffs per plate appearance at this level. Still impressive though.
