  • Starting pitcher: RHP Nick Nelson: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K — 42 of 70 pitches were strikes (60%)…Guess he’s in the rotation now. Second straight start. He was a starter originally, anyway.

  • Florial watch: CF Estevan Florial: 2-6, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 K — Nice return after missing a few days from a hit by pitch.
  • Leftovers: DH Trey Amburgey keeps hitting. He had a double and two walks tonight. Now has a 33-game on-base streak, a team-record. He’s one of three RailRiders with OPS’s north of 1.000 (Gittens and Park). RF Socrates Brito had a two-hit game. Ex-Yankee Didi Gregorius picked up two hits in a rehab assignment for Lehigh Valley in this one.

  • Peraza watch: SS Oswald Peraza: 1-4, RBI, BB, 2 K — Also made a fielding error.
  • 80-Raw Power: 1B Dermis García: 1-3, R, HR, RBI, BB, 2 K — 12th homer of the season traveled 474 feet, apparently. Check it out below. He’s always had ridiculous power, but he struggles to make contact.
  • Leftovers: LF Matt Pita’s RBI groundout proved to be the game-winner in the 10th…he also singled, doubled, and stole a base tonight. 2B Oswaldo Cabrera, CF Michael Beltre, and RF Thomas Milone all had a hit a piece. Cabrera doubled, Beltre stole a bag, and Milone tripled.

2-4 with a homer, a single, a walk, and basically half of the team’s RBIs is not a leftover. You should celebrate all players, not just your favorites.

Without Clarke Schmidt, and with Garcia struggling, Nelson should be starting. There’s no depth behind King right now. And maybe the extra work will straighten out his command issues.
