DoTF: Deivi Delegated to Bullpen as Farm Goes Undefeated

News & Notes

  • Deivi Garcia will spend the rest of the Triple-A season as a bullpen option, according to Conor Foley. Manager Jay Bell said before the game that it was to both save pitches and see if he’s a bullpen option for the MLB team down the stretch. This is an expected move, but that doesn’t mean it’s not exciting. I’m looking forward to following the bullpen version of The Piraña, myself.
  • The 2020 RailRiders schedule is out, also per Foley. Check it out here.

  • Starting Pitcher: Nick Nelson: 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K–67 of his 104 pitches (64%) went for strikes…the 23-year-old has pitched well recently, with a 2.79 ERA in his last 50 IP before tonight
  • In Relief: Tyler Lyons: 1.2 IP, 1 H, zeros, 1 BB, 1 K–14 of his 25 pitches (56%) went for strikes…had a 2.55 ERA in his last 10 appearances
  • In Relief: J.P. Feyereisen: 1.1 IP, 1 H, zeros, 2 K–15 of his 22 (68%) of his pitches went for strikes…he entered with two on and two out in the 8th and the game knotted at 2, he loaded the bases but got out of it, earning himself the win in the process…had allowed a run in every other appearance in his last 10 before tonight, which makes it 2 scoreless in a row
  • Hitting Star: Breyvic Valera: 1-1, 1 HR, 2 RBI–he pinch-hit in the 8th with a man on and delivered the game-winning home run in a huge game for Scranton
  • On Deck: Wendell Rijo: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 R–a good game for the 23-year-old 2B, who has struggled of late

Double-A Trenton Thunder: (4-0 win against New Hampshire)

  • In Relief: Will Carter: 1.1 IP, 1 H, zeros–a nice bounce-back appearance for the 26-year-old, who had allowed 10 ER in his last 5 IP before today
  • In Relief: Braden Bristo: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB–6 of his 12 pitches (50%) went for strikes…2nd time in his last 3 appearances during which the 24-year-old hasn’t recorded a strikeout, despite retiring 9 batters by punchout in his last 15 IP
  • Hitting Star: Zach Zehner: 2-4, 2 R, 1 K–the 27-year-old outfielder recorded 2 hits in his first game since being demoted to Double-A
  • On Deck: Brandon Wagner: 2-4, 2 K–the 23-year-old has really struggled in 2019, hitting just .175, so it’s nice to see him record 2 knocks
  • On Deck: Max Burt: 1-4, 1 RBI–the 22-year-old shortstop drove in the only earned run of the game…Burt is now hitting .250
  • Notables: Angel Aguilar recorded a double and scored a run…a nice night for the Trenton staff, which recorded 9 strikeouts, walked just 1, and allowed only 4 hits in a shutout

Some of the position players have had promising years. But, the way Medina, Garcia, Yajure, Schmidt, etc.. have finished up the season has to be really exciting for the organization.
