ALCS Game 6: Win It for CC (Again)

Win one more game and we force a Game 7. In Game 7s, anything can happen. Tonight will be a battle of the bullpens with the Yankees’ backs up against a wall. Before Friday’s Game 5, CC Sabathia said that he would consider an MRI after the team got back from Houston…but I don’t think he planned on that being on Sunday, so I think the Yankees should go out there and win tonight. What say you?

In all seriousness, tonight is another do-or-die matchup for the Yanks. Houston is incredible at home but the Yankees are an incredible team. I’m not yet ready to say goodbye to the 2019 Yankees. They’re my favorite Yankees team in quite some time, even surpassing the 2017 squad. I suspect the same is true for you, too, so lets all just hope that they’re able to get the job done once more.

Here are tonight’s lineups as the Yankees try to stave off elimination for at least another night:

Houston Astros (3-2)
1. George Springer, CF
2. José Altuve, 2B
3. Michael Brantley, LF
4. Alex Bregman, 3B
5. Yuli Gurriel, 1B
6. Carlos Correa, SS
7. Yordan Álvarez, DH
8. Robinson Chirinos, C
9. Josh Reddick, RF
RHP Brad Peacock

New York Yankees (2-3)
1. DJ LeMahieu, 1B
2. Aaron Judge, RF
3. Gleyber Torres, 2B
4. Aaron Hicks, CF
5. Edwin Encarnación, DH
6. Didi Gregorius, SS
7. Gary Sánchez, C
8. Gio Urshela, 3B
9. Brett Gardner, LF
RHP Chad Green

Aaron Boone said before the game that Giancarlo Stanton was “okay” but that he wanted to plug Edwin in. I have no problem with that, as I don’t think either Edwin nor Giancarlo are particularly healthy at this point. Oh well. Go out there and get the job done and force a Game 7 no matter what. Let’s go Yankees!

Thoughts Before Game 6 of the ALCS

ALCS Game 6: Yankees Lose An Absolute Heartbreaker In Encapsulation of Their Season

  1. Dan A

I’m really unhappy. Where is Stanton? How is he not playing in an elimination game?

How has Hal not raised the payroll since 2004? That is embarrassing, frankly. Such a disappointing year, considering how much promise it had.

    • Dan A

After the dj hit I was really hoping to be able to post something taking this back. But the game ended even worse!

      Stanton ➡️ ?☀️

Truly terrible way to end the season.

  2. Betty Lizard

I know that David Ortiz is a big cheater and Zimbabwe hated facing him. But I loved him in the Home Run Derby and I FLOVE him as a commentator.

    • Betty Lizard

“I” not Zimbabwe. Where does that even come from?

  3. Betty Lizard

Gleyber Torres t-shirt, gin and tonic and sitting on the patio. Let’s go Yankees! Even with all the heartbreak, this is a magical season.

    team of destiny
no way they go out tonight

  5. RetroRob

If the Yankees have an issue this postseason, it’s that their hitters are just not healthy, or have recovered their timing due to missed time. EE, Stanton and Sanchez are all not quite right, all three just returning at the end of the season. Add in Hicks (who has been getting good ABs), and that’s four of the hitters in the lineup, facing very good pitching.

I know there are or were some Yankees fans who wanted to bring EE back. This series should serve as a reminder as to why that won’t work. Stanton is not a DH. He’s a good RFer and likely can be ok in Yankee Stadium’s wide LF, but not as a regular LFer. He’s probably slated for 80+ games at DH in 2020. Let’s hope so, because that means he’s healthy. There is no room for EE. The Yankees can’t play both Stanton and EE. The younger and more talented Stanton is the primary DH. Maybe Stanton ends up playing 100 games in the OF, split between LF and RF. That’s also possible as Andujar and Sanchez will need DH time. No matter. There will be no room at the inn in 2020 for EE.

    • RetroRob

Stanton is not “just” a DH is what I meant to write, but he will appear quite a bit there with Andujar and Sanchez.
