It’s pretty difficult to complain about where the Yankees stand entering the break. Nonetheless, I can understand a bit of disappointment after losing back-to-back one run games against the Rays to end the first portion of the season. The team had a chance to put Tampa Bay really far in the rear after taking the first two games of this weekend’s series. Alas, a 6.5 game lead is still pretty darn good.
2019 Regular Season Record: 57-31 (1st place, 6.5 games ahead of Tampa Bay)
Last Week: 3-3
Upcoming: All Star Break (7/8 – 7/11), Home vs. Blue Jays (7/12 – 7/14)
Recent Aaron Boone News:
- The skipper stood up for a couple of his players over the last seven days:
- After Didi Gregorius riskily stole second base in Tuesday’s loss, Boone covered for the shortstop.
- Gleyber Torres wasn’t named an All-Star initially, and Boone was peeved. It didn’t take long for Torres to be later added as a replacement.
- Boone thinks Luke Voit will be back not long after the break.
- A few of the teams stars were given day’s off during the series against Tampa Bay. This was all part of the plan, according to Boone. It may not have been the popular decision during a series against the division’s second place team, but they’re planning for the long run.
- The manager addressed the team after Sunday’s game:
Aaron Boone says he talked to the team after today’s game and expressed to them: “They put us in a great spot but that’s all it is right now. We’ve got some unfinished businees and we’ve got a long way to go, but we put ourselves in a position to have a really special season.”
