Many of you didn’t like Aaron Boone’s resting strategy prior to the All-Star Break, huh? I get it. It was disappointing to not bury the Rays when the team seemingly had a chance. But, as the manager noted, it was all part of the plan. Let’s take a look at what’s happened since the Yankees returned to action.
2019 Regular Season Record: 59-32 (1st place, 6.0 games ahead of Tampa Bay)
Last Week: 2-1
Upcoming: Home vs. Rays (4 games, 7/15 – 7/18), Home vs. Rockies (3 games, 7/19 – 7/21)
Recent Aaron Boone News:
- Boone stood up for Aaron Judge over the weekend. In this instance, it was in regard to Judge’s strike zone.
- Friday’s update on Luis Severino’s status was a blow, but there’s still hope for him to return. He’s starting a throwing program today. If and when Sevy is back in the bigs, Boone hopes it’s as a starter but didn’t rule out relief.
- Aaron Hicks, Gary Sánchez, and Edwin Encarnación all got the day off yesterday. Like it or not, Boone is committed to keeping his players fresh even if it seems like overkill.
- The skipper pulled Masahiro Tanaka a little early yesterday and also played lefty/righty matchups with Adam Ottavino and Tommy Kahnle thereafter. Here’s his explanation regarding Tanaka, and here’s a big reason why he likes Kahnle vs. lefties.
With most of the week off, it was a bit of a light news week for Boone. Anyway, please take a moment to vote on the three questions below:

Boone has been a great manager so far. With injuries and all he’s managed fairly well while also keeping players fresh while ALSO doing what he’s asked to from from the FO. He really is a players coach and a good one he deserves more credit! Whether you like him or not he should be front-runner for the Manager of the year in my opinion.

Sanchez needed a day off; Encarnacion can sit for a week as far as I am concerned – prefer Urshula.
